Five Ways to Celebrate Vermont’s Lakes Appreciation Month

Summertime temperatures are climbing, which makes now the best time to hop into your car and get out on the water.  Governor Shumlin agrees – he has declared July to be Vermont’s official Lakes Appreciation Month.

Vermont’s clean rivers and lakes keep our forests green and support the natural wildlife that depend on these waterways.  Drop by the Mountain Top Inn and Resort and celebrate the season with one of our many summer activities.

Explore the Reservoir on Watercraft

The blue jewel of the Mountain Top Inn and Resort is Chittenden Reservoir.  It’s 750 acres of pristine lake that wanders through a varied landscape of hills, inlets, and unspoiled National Forest.  Sounds inviting?  Grab one of our complementary kayaks and a life jacket.  More interested in picking up a new sport?  Here, you can learn how to Stand Up Paddleboard under ideal conditions – beginners learning to SUP love the reservoir’s smooth, placid surface.

Hike in the Green Mountain National Forest

Pack your binoculars and take one of the trails off of resort grounds and into the nearby Green Mountain National Forest.  This is a birdwatcher’s paradise; a wealth of different bird species call the woods home.  Keep a sharp eye out and you may spot one of the rarer forest residents like moose or black bears.

Stay by the Beach

If the first two options sound like too much work under the hot summer sun, you can always stretch out on the Mountain Top Inn’s sandy beach or take a leisurely swim through the cool, refreshing water of the resort’s cove.   Pack your fishing license and you can go fly fishing in nearby inlets; our staff will be happy to point you to the best spots.

Visit Nearby Lakes

If you want to strike out a little farther afield, the Mountain Top Inn’s friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you plan a day trip to one of the nearby lakes or rivers.  You’ll never have to visit the same place twice; there are over 800 lakes and reservoirs in Vermont!

At the End of the Day …

Worn out after a long day on the water?  Come visit our first class Spa & Salon.  Relax the knots away in our hot tub, enjoy a sea salt body scrub, or shed all your tension with a Swedish Massage delivered by an experienced masseuse.
The days are long, but summer won’t last forever.  This is the best time of the year to enjoy the water and take in the unparalleled rugged beauty of wild Vermont.  Come to the Mountain Top Inn and we’ll help you have an unforgettable season.
