Enjoying Winter in its Original State

Winter in Central Vermont is known for transforming the landscape into a picturesque wonderland, offering a myriad of activities for those willing to embrace the cold. From adrenaline-pumping activities to cozy indoor escapes, there’s something for everyone. Looking to make the plunge into the cold? Here is a guide to experience the best of winter.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Central Vermont is known for its world-renowned ski resorts, like Killington and Pico, which are just a few miles from Mountain Top Resort. Grab your skis or snowboard – or rent, if you haven’t yet bought a pair – and carve through the slopes while enjoying breathtaking views. There are trails for all skill levels, making it a winter sport enthusiast’s paradise,

While housing and lodging fill up quickly on the mountain, Mountain Top Resort also offers Ski + Stay packages, which give you two day passes to Killington, while offering a warm, quiet refuge just a short drive away.

Snowshoeing and Cross Country Skiing

For a more serene winter experience, explore the network of snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails! The Catamount Trail and Stowe Recreation Path offer a peaceful retreat into the snowy wilderness, with opportunities to witness the beauty of Central Vermont’s winter landscapes. Are you traveling with kids? Ski Vermont offers a Fifth Grade Passport that allows fifth graders to ski at nearly every downhill and cross-country ski area in Vermont!

Mountain Top Resort participates in this, as well as the reciprocal program, which means that if you hold a pass at another cross-country area, you can visit Mountain Top for one day of skiing, or the other way around. If you’re looking for adventure, and getting the opportunity to visit somewhere new, this may be the way to go!

Ice Skating

Outdoor rinks are one of the best ways to get outdoors without going too far for fun. Whether it’s a community rink or a hidden gem, there’s something for everyone to enjoy the classic winter activity. Often, if you don’t have skates, there are rentals. Mountain Top Resort is one of the few public rinks in the Central Vermont area as well!

Spa Retreats and Indoor Escapes

When the cold finally gets to you, it’s the perfect time to duck into Vermont’s indoor gems. Explore museums, and art galleries, or catch a performance! Warm up with hot cocoa or comfort food at local eateries.

For something more wellness-focused, spas can be found throughout Vermont that tie in elements of the outdoors. Blush Vermont at Mountain Top Resort is open to the public (appointments required), but offers massages, salon appointments, and more, all while being transported into the Green Mountains in winter.

Central Vermont is known for having a grab bag of activities, and there’s something for everyone looking to escape the everyday. Whether you’re chasing thrills or looking for a cozy corner, it’s the perfect time to grab your mittens, embrace the chill, and experience the magic of winter – in its original state.
