Cross Country Skiing in Vermont
Whether you’re looking for an adventure or simply looking for some quiet outdoors, cross-country skiing offers excitement and serenity. Known for its postcard-perfect mountains, charming towns, and plenty of cold and snow, Vermont provides the go-to spot for an unforgettable experience, on and off the skis.
Must Hit Ski-Spots:
Mountain Top Resort Nordic Center
Tucked away in Chittenden, Mountain Top Resort is a cross-country skiing paradise. With over 60 kilometers of trails and 40 kilometers of those groomed, it is the perfect location for beginners and pros alike. The views of the Chittenden Reservoir and surrounding mountains are the cherry on top for an already awesome skiing experience. With plenty of things to do outside of skiing, such as sleigh rides, snowshoeing, and a spa and salon on-site, there’s something for everyone, any day of the week.
Trapp Family Lodge Skiing Center
About an hour and a half away from Mountain Top Resort, Trapp Family Lodge is another great location in Stowe, Vermont, perfect for cross-country skiing. If you’re up for a bit of history, this set of trails has a vast network that ties directly in with the Von Trapps – yes, those Von Trapps.
Rikert Outdoor Center
Middlebury’s Outdoor Center is a hidden gem in the National Forest. With winding trails through forests and open fields, it truly caters to all levels of experience.
Craftsbury Outdoor Center
In Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, the Craftsbury Outdoor Center is a skiing mecca, but they’re also known for being a great location for sculling. Not only do they also have trails for all levels, but they also host plenty of cross-country skiing events and racing throughout the season.
Beyond the Trails:
Vermont’s winter season isn’t only about skiing – as much as it seems that way. After you’ve conquered the trails, kicking back in a local lodge allows you to try locally sourced food, drink hot chocolate, and get a chance to relax after a long day. If you’re feeling adventurous, there are plenty of Vermont craft breweries to stop at along the way as well!
