Tour Some of Vermont’s Greatest Breweries in Easy Reach of the Mountain Top

Thanks to a cadre of creative brewers and a lot of enthusiastic microbrew fans, Vermont has emerged as unquestionably one of the nation’s top craft-beer states.

What’s great about the Mountain Top Inn & Resort—along with the sublime Green Mountain setting, varied amenities, delicious food, and all the other incredible features of our grounds—is its proximity to standout breweries. Staying with us at the Mountain Top, you’re perfectly poised to sample some of America’s tastiest—and most inspired—suds right where they’re concocted.

And because our corner of the state is such a beautiful one, heading out to visit a craft brewery or two near Killington means soaking up an awful lot of postcard-perfect scenery.

Loads of Nearby Options for the Beer-lover

In Killington’s greater backyard, you can explore a truly impressive diversity of beer styles and flavors across a huge and colorful lineup of homegrown brews.

A stone’s throw away in Windsor, you can enjoy a pint at Harpoon Brewery—maybe a hoppy Leviathin IPA, a delectable Boston Irish Stout, or, given the season, a UFO Pumpkin—while gazing at the bottling line or relaxing outside in the pleasant beer garden.

In Weston, Backacre Beermakers showcases a unique Belgian-style sour ale brewed with a blend of yeast cultures and aged in oak barrels. And over in Bridgewater Corners, Long Trail Brewing (which has been a Vermont stalwart since 1989) serves up a heady variety of beers, from year-round standbys such as the flagship Long Trail Ale, an amber, to seasonal selections like Harvest, a brown ale imbued with some of Vermont’s world-famous maple syrup.

More breweries, more beers: There’s Foley Brothers Brewing in Brandon (try the top-rated Fair Maiden Double IPA), for example, and brand-new Hop’n Moose Brewing Company in Rutland (check out the Trois Pale Ale). And others await just a bit farther afield, including Upper Bass Beer and Brocklebank Craft Brewing, both in Tunbridge.

Your Mountain Top Beer-appreciation Odyssey

Not so long ago, craft brew—small-batch beers created with richness and variety of flavor in mind—was an obscure, almost underground pursuit. These days, it’s a culture in and of itself, blossoming all across the country and beyond. The U.S. is widely regarded as the vanguard of the modern craft-beer movement, and Vermont is one of the big players, our small size notwithstanding.

See what’s going on in the bubbling vats and fermentation tanks of the Green Mountain State’s world-class breweries for yourself: Come stay at the Mountain Top Inn & Resort, which makes for the best launchpad for a Vermont beer tour you could possibly ask for!
