Summer/Fall Resort Activities

Please see the announcement on our home page regarding our resort’s compliance with Vermont State Governor Scott’s COVID-19 restrictions.

With 700 private acres perched at the top of a quiet mountain road, a 740 acre lake, miles of trails, expansive meadows, the Green Mountain National Forest and a full host of activities, there is no shortage of things to do.  Take a picnic lunch and make a full day of it! …but if you prefer to do absolutely nothing, we can find a quiet place for that too.

Some of our summer season activities & amenities are open to the public – in summer/fall our equestrian program, clay bird shooting lessons are open to the public.  Year-round, our spa and both our restaurant & tavern are open to the public.  Several summer amenities are available exclusively to our overnight guests (such as our heated outdoor pool, private beach, boats, tennis & volleyball courts, disc golf and lawn games). Equestrian Center

Our Equestrian Center is open each summer from Memorial Day Weekend through October.  Mountain Top is the only Vermont Resort, and one of only a handful of properties in New England, to offer a full equestrian program.  Experienced rider or new to the saddle, we’ve got an equestrian program for you. This program is open to the public.

Our heated outdoor swimming pool, adjacent to the spa and event barn, offers amazing views! Our pool-side hot tub is open year-round, our pool is generally open June into September. Both are included in your overnight stay.

Gift Shop

The Mountain Top Inn & Resort Gift Shop is a wonderful place to pick up some Vermont foods and products or Mountain Top memorabilia to take home with you or give as gifts to your family and friends!  Located at our activities center by the equestrian stables, the gift shop is just a short walk from the main lodge. Our gift shop is open year-round but hours vary seasonally, so check with the front desk if you have any questions.

Private Beach

Access to our exclusive beach, included in your overnight stay, is available this May through late fall. A lovely walk of less than ¾ mile, down a private lane from the main lodge, the beach is situated on a quiet cove within a 740 acre lake. Enjoy boating, swim or simply relax on lounge chairs. Forgot your beach towel? Don’t worry! We’ve got them at the front desk. Hungry? Take a picnic lunch! – sample picnic lunch menu

Kayaking Etc.

Take a tour around the lake on our kayaks, canoes and paddleboards.  From the center of the lake, are beautiful views of Pico Ski Mountain.  Use of these boats is included in your overnight stay and available on a first-come, first-serve basis, from 9AM to 5pm (weather permitting, May through October). Life jackets are required and provided (Jackets can be found in the beach shed).  While our beach remains accessible through dusk, our boating equipment is secured each evening for guest safety.  Our boats are reserved for overnight guest use only.

Guided Pontoon Boat Ride

If you’re simply looking to relax while taking a tour of the lake, inquire about our guided pontoon boat rides. Offered daily, these guided trips are approximately 1-hour long and tour the entire lake (weather permitting, May through October). Reservations are required. Go Fish! Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Yellow Perch and Sunfish all call our 740 acre Lake home. And with seating for up to four people, our small fishing boat rental with electric trolling motor is perfect for a day of fishing* on the lake(weather permitting, during summer months) .

Disc Golf

Have fun on our 9-hole disc golf course which takes advantage of the open meadow space, adjacent woods, spectacular views and finishes just a few steps from the Mountain Top Tavern and terrace.  Discs can be borrowed from the front desk, and discs and greens fees are included in your overnight stay. First come, first serve – in-season only.

Clay Bird Shooting

Lessons are offered daily by our experienced staff May through fall (weather permitting). For safety reasons, we have a maximum allotment of six people per time slot.  The minimum age to participate is 15 years old and reservations are required. This activity is open to the public.

$40 per person for 20 shots with instruction | Each additional shot is $2.

Hiking Trails

Our 700 private acres, 40 miles of trails and Long Trail access, provide perfect walking and hiking excursions. Whether you’re looking to take a simple stroll or are interested in a more challenging outing, we have a trail for you . Make a day of it and let our Chef pack a lunch for you!

* Many of these trails are shared with our horseback riders, so please be careful and aware.


Tennis Anyone? Bring your own racquets or borrow ours, our tennis court is available to guests on a first come, first serve basis and is included in your overnight stay from spring through fall. Visit the front desk for information or to borrow equipment.

Sand Volleyball

Our sand volleyball court is located just below the tennis court and is complimentary for overnight guests.  It’s just a little difficult to keep your eye on the ball, not the view!  Play one-on-one or grab a team and play spring through fall.


Mountain Top Inn & Resort, has several challenging yet fun courses near-by (including Rutland Country Club, Green Mountain National Golf Course, Killington Golf Course and Neshobe Golf Club – all of which are accessible to the public).
